KT: We will not be posting a normal episode this week in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.
KT: We would like to thank Cult forty five for hashtag PodcastBlackout to bring more of a focus to these important matters.
KT: There's a lot to say and there's a lot to feel.
KT: We can like, we can retweet, it's gotten to a point where we need to take action and support if possible.
KT: On behalf of the For Your Reference podcast, it fucking hurts.
KT: Whether you're black or whether someone you love is black, even if you don't have anyone in your life that is directly affected by this, it's important that we talk about it. Even on a human level, this is important and it's something that we shouldn't ignore.
KT: Is there anything you want to say Oti?
Oti: Being a black person and seeing this go on it hurts.
Oti: It hurts being seen as subhuman and being treated that way. Everyone just treat us equally That's all we want. No special treatment, just equals. That's all. It's not fucking hard, right? Like there's so much you can focus on and take the focus away from, but at the end of the day, it's a simple, simple thing. And to ignore that there's any sort of discrimination against black people systemically within the system in the United States of America is a conversation that needs to be had.
KT: There's a historical context, there's a lot of love that needs to happen but there's also a lot of action that needs to happen.
KT: So we'll put some links in the show notes on ways you can sign petitions and you can support funds for protesters and bailouts as well.
KT: We love you guys.
KT: If you need some levity, feel free to check out our episodes and we'll see you guys soon. See you. Bye.
