Breakdown and Analysis

• We do not regard Child’s Play 2019 as part of the franchise. It has Chucky elements but not part of the OG franchise.
• Chucky got more airtime in our other horror movies we have covered on the podcast.
• Growing up in Kenya, watching Chucky movies was the scariest thing Oti encountered.
• Oti comes for all Horror icons. No one is safe.
• It becomes nitpicky when people point out flaws in a doll killer franchise.
• Although it is a great franchise, KT is dubious as to how it came to be based on Child’s Play.
• Child’s Play 2 was a nice way to expand upon the original, if you’re gonna continue the series, this is how you do it. It was also fun to continue to see Andy be haunted by Chucky.
• Andy had already been through enough so seeing a teenage Andy was not as fun in Child’s Play 3. Oti enjoyed the kills in this movie.
• We see a departure from straight horror to campy comedic fanfare in Bride of Chucky. Jennifer Tilly is the standard and puts a breath of fresh air and essence of fun. The movie catapulted the franchise into another stratosphere. Entertainment. Adrenaline Rush. It started to inform us that tonally this would be different.
• The Seed of Chucky is absolutely the best. To have a poignant, normalising conversation about gender identity in 2004, who gave Don Mancini permission to be so progressive? We get to experience an interaction without it being a joke. Laugh or cringe as you may, there’s still a bloody message to it. Did Chucky just enlighten me?
• If Chucky is more progressive than your family or friends, then you need to have a real talk with them friends and lovers.
• We have the introduction of Fiona Dourif in Curse of Chucky.
